Responsibilities

  • Tax Preparation: Prepare and review complex tax returns (individual, corporate, trust, and partnerships) for US or AU clients, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare financial statements, perform reconciliations (e.g., bank, credit card, and other accounts), and assist with month-end, quarterly, and year-end reporting.
  • Client Interaction: Liaise with clients to gather required documentation, provide tax advisory services, and ensure timely and accurate submissions.
  • Tax Planning: Analyze and evaluate tax planning opportunities for clients, including projections and recommendations.
  • Compliance: Manage tax filings for various entities, including BAS, IAS, GST (AU), or W2s, 1099s, 1040s, 1120s, and 1065s (US), ensuring timely submission and adherence to regulations.
  • Process Improvement: Assist in refining tax procedures, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of tax laws, and suggesting process improvements to increase efficiency.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize accounting and tax software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, SAGE, Hubdoc, ADP, Gusto) to ensure accurate record-keeping and reporting.
  • Team Collaboration: Review tax returns prepared by junior staff, provide guidance, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., auditors, tax advisors).
  • Other Duties: Handle ad hoc tasks such as bookkeeping, reconciliation of discrepancies, or other accounting-related duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) preferred.
  • For AU: At least 5+ years of experience in Australian tax preparation, including BAS, IAS, GST, and relevant tax treaties.
  • For US: 5+ years of experience in US tax preparation, with expertise in corporate, partnership, and individual taxation.
  • Experience with high-volume accounting tasks such as managing 500+ invoices, tax projections, and capital gains tax (CGT) calculations.
  • Proficiency in tax software such as Xero, QuickBooks, SAGE, Hubdoc, ADP, Gusto, and other relevant platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with clients and external stakeholders (e.g., auditors, tax authorities).

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with international tax, tax treaties, and non-resident tax schedules.
  • Proficiency in using project management tools such as Senta or Thompson Reuters for tax workflows.
  • Experience working with SMEs, trusts, partnerships, and high-net-worth individuals.
